[ 2008 Results ] Why a Bicycle Time Trial Gary Toth established time trials in in Clinton County decades ago because he was an avid bike racer who felt that people in this area should have an opportunity to ride regular time trials. The benefits are different for different riders. For some, it is that first exposure to bike racing. For others, it gives an opportunity to measure how their training is progressing. Still others take it as one time in each week when they ride at full effort -- an intensity workout. Some riders look at it as a competition, trying to post the fastest time for the day. Some have ongoing competitions with other riders of similar talent, even if they are minutes slower than the winner. And everybody can try to improve on last week's time, or to achieve a personal-best. This activity has continued because throughout the decades, there were always a few people who cared enough about the activity to make some phone calls or put an item in the paper so that it would happen again. There is no club or organization and for the most part, there have been no sponsors or entry fees. Show up, write your name on the timing sheet and ride. We are concerned about safety so we reserve the right not to post the time of a rider who does not wear a helmet, and we would similarly disqualify a rider if we learned that he or she did not follow the rules of the road. So our mission is to share a time trial opportunity with each other, and to welcome other riders and newcomers who might be interested in trying it out.
