After 16 successful events (plus one rainout and one holiday) running from May 15 to September 12, the 2012 Pt au Roche bicycle time trial season is finished. We had 70 different participants turning in 245 finishes. The busiest week saw 23 riders participating. For a few weeks we moved from Wednesday evenings to Tuesdays, not to conflict with a time trial in Lake Placid.
We congratulated nine different winners in the ten-mile event this season. Bob Tysen posted four wins and a second place in his five rides and Kevin Duniho followed with three wins and a second in four rides. Mary Duprey and Jim Walker each posted 2 wins, and one-time winners were Mike Wynn, Jack Piller, Scott Woodward, Kyle Gagnier and Ed Armstrong.. Woodward also posted four second-place and three third-place finishes. Mike Wynn participated just once and recorded the season's fastest ride with a 21:39, just 8 seconds off of Kevin Duniho's 1995 record 21:31, and the only ride of the season under the magic 22 minute barrier.
|
Four riders: Jim Walker, Bob Tysen, Kevin Duniho and Jack Piller, posted times in the 22 minute range.
Mary Duprey again dominated the women's competition, emerging undefeated in seven rides of the ten mile course. (Mary hasn't been topped after her first few rides in 1986.)
Mary was the only rider to challenge the 25 mile course -- she rode twice, finishing in 63:15 and 63:24.
The Ralph Senecal Award for most dependable rider again went to Ed Armstrong who rode all 16 weeks. Eric Kreckel followed with 13 rides while Lynne Murray had 11. Scott Woodward and Stacey Brooks each rode 10 times.

On the final night of the season, six riders battled a strong south wind as they returned south from the turn-around. Scott Woodward turned in the fastest time with newcomer Mark Theeman, a racer from Boston, placing second. We had no women and no five mile riders. This finishes the 2012 season. Have a great fall and winter -- see you in the spring.

No breeze at the fire station but the riders assure us that there was wind out on the course. In spite of that, four of the ten riders recorded peresonal best times (PR).

It was not a fast night, but we had a good turnout and some nice times. Congratulations to two TT regulars who made the podium in the Run for Jon organized by Scott Woodward and the Evans family. Jason Amoriell and Ed Armstrong both took home the clever little wooden apples as medalists in their age groups. And Mary Duprey rested up after her Ironman triathlon with a sprint triathlon on Saturday and the run up Mt. Mansfield on Sunday. Ironperson indeed!

Here are a few more events with lists of TT participants found by a quick visual search of the results. We may have missed a few -- if you know any more, please let us know. In the spring, the Plattsburgh Half Marathon attracted at least seven of our folks: Brian White, Ed Armstrong, Heather Jabaut, Donnie Armstrong, Gerry Duprey (frequent TT timer), Jonathan Parks and Bob Davies (TT regular from years ago). [ See Full Results ] In June, four of our riders finished the Whiteface Mt. Bike Hillclimb up the Memorial Highway: Jason Amoriell, Jerry Macner, Rob Spencer and Susanna Piller. [ See Full Results ] Several of our friends did well at the New York State Time Trial Championships in Cambridge, NY. Jeff Krywanczyk, Jim Walker and Sabine Amoriell all won their competition classes while Shannan Keysor, Ed Armstrong, Erik Bollt, Sabine Amoriell, Susanna Piller and Lynne Murray also brought home medals. Two Scotts, Scott Bollt and Scott Woodward, also competed, but Woodward's string of four consecutive State Championships was finally broken. [ See Full Results ] The Rand Hill Bike Hillclimb organized annually by the YMCA was won by Jason Amoriell followed by Jerry Macner in second. Other riders were Jay Ruff (fifth), Alicia Chase (7th), Sabine Amoriell (11), Donnie Armstrong (12) and Randy Kelley who rode with his young daughter. [ See Full Results ] Finally, the Annual Y-Tri saw ten of our riders finishing. Jon Parks was the overall winner, followed by Randy Kelley in second place. Class winners included Chris Demers, Randy Kelley and Alicia Chase, while Jason Amoriell, Rob Spencer, Chris Demers, Jay Ruff, Brian White, Steve Waite, Alicia Chase and Sandy Rasco all turned in good individual finishes. Lynne Murray raced with the top women's relay team and her daughter, Shannan Keysor raced with the top mixed team which finished just nine seconds ahead of the ladies. [ See Full Results ]

A Difficult Night!! Times were a bit off, but the turnout was good. Yes, Scott is Erik's son, and harder to guess, Shannon is Lynne's daughter. We wish the best of luck to several of our TT participants who will ride in the New York State Time Trial Championships this weekend. And the same for riders in the Tour de Rand Hill, and finally for participants in the Lake Placid Ironman race on Sunday. Good luck to all!

A Wonderful Night!! A little warm, yes, but not for the riders, and no breeze to speak of. No surprise then with such good conditions and no event last week that we had a new high of 23 participants and some fast times. We'll try to identify PR and Season Best rides in a few days. No, Stephanie isn't related to Don & Barb, and we think that Donnie isn't related to Ed. But we had two other couples: Jack & Susanna, Jason & Sabine, while Eric & Paige are father and daughter.

Hot! Yes indeed it was hot, but 20 riders came out for the last ride before the Summer Solstice, which came at 7:09 after the last rider had finished. And the competition was hot too, with plenty of fast times.

You may download a spreadsheet showing complete results from the entire season. (The sheet is wide and may not be visible all at once on your computer screen. Part of the reason is that all times are shown with an extra "0:" (0:25:37 rather than 25:37). Excel does not seem to handle elapsed times gracefully and this is the best way I have found. If anyone has a better way, please let me know.)
